March 2011

Let me just start off with the fact that spring is here. Ok not really, the Vernal Equinox is on the 20th of March, but close enough to say that by the time you are reading this, it's gonna be or almost be spring. And of course spring really is my favorite time of year around the River. We get to finally start getting back into out door activities, enjoying looking at spring flowers and all the wonderful things that make the area such a wonderful place to live, work and play.

Let's start off with some play. And I mean that literally, our local group of thespians, Pegasus Theater, is finishing their opening run of the 2011 Season with Charlie's Aunt. This is a great play to launch this years season. It's a fun filled play that has been performed around the world for the last 100 years. With the story of two college boys, Jack and Charley who are in love with Kitty and Amy. Charley's aunt from Brazil is about to visit and the boys decide she would be the perfect chaperone when the girls come to lunch. Though problems arise when Charley's aunt postpones her visit at the last minute. Jack and Charley decide that they need to coerce their fellow student Lord Fancourt into putting on a dress and wig and pretend to be Charley's aunt. And yes you would guess that things will go quickly and hilariously awry. Amy's uncle who is also Kitty's guardian shows up and falls passionately in love with the fake aunt and the real aunt changes her mind and suddenly appears. Thing spiral rapidly out of the poor boys control. This fast paced and very funny farce still has the ability to reduce it's audiences to tears of laughter at this tale of star-crossed and cross-dressed lovers. Show times are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. with tickets priced at $20. Through Sunday the 27th. Reservations may be made through the web page for the company at or over the phone : (707) 583 2343 The performance space is at the Rio Nido Lodge the corner of Canyon Two and Woods Road in Rio Nido.
And of course we have some fun on-going events at my favorite bar in town, The Rainbow Cattle Company. Monday nights the event that is so much fun is Wii Bowling. It's a fun filled night of hanging out with your friends and community members around the game of Wii Bowling. And let me say it really is fun. And frankly it isn't all that hard to do. For a two buck buy in, you could be the winner. And it also benefits Sonoma County Gay Pride (which will be held again this year in June.). With drink specials for the bowlers. But wait, there is more! The Rainbow also does Give Back Tuesday each week. With ten percent of the days sales going to a different charity each week. And on the 23rd of March it is the Finale Wednesday Hump Night Potluck. This event is also a great night to come out and enjoy the company of your friends and have a great meal. Check out The Rainbow on line at for all the 411 on what they are up to.

Now on another note, I just wanted to throw in a plug for my good friend Country Dan. He has started yet another night of Karaoke her in the River. Now he is still doing Thursday nights at the Bullpen (16246 First Street) and Friday at Bucks. Upstairs at 15440 4th Street, the corner of 4th and Mill. The new night is Saturday at Northwood 19400 Highway 116. Yes sir, you can now sing out at the golf course lodge on Saturday nights. And let me tell you if you haven't been out to Northwood in awhile your in for a pleasant surprise. I love what they have done with the dinning room, it is such a great space with wonderful food. If you would like to take a look at Country Dans schedule, click to and oh while your at his web page, feel free to take a look at his song list with almost 140,000 songs. Yeah that's not a typo, he really does have that many songs.

Now speaking of great food, I want to take a moment to plug on of my favorite places in town. Trio has been around for a bit. I feel they are now really starting to get their grove on. The space is great, I love the menu. And did you know on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday they have live music? With a comfortable bar, good food and live music what more could you ask for on a night out in Guerneville? They are located at 16225 Main Street (707) 604-7461 web page at

Now a quick shameless plug, Creation Full Service Salon is excited to announce that you can now come in and get gel nails done. Shannon who has been doing spray tanning with us, has just added some great options for nail care, manicures and pedicures with organic herbal options and Gel nails to the menu. Of course you still can get hair care, skin care and massage with us Monday through Saturday. Check us out on line at or call 707-869-2069. Oh and I almost forgot to mention that we are also now doing Featherlock hair extensions with natural feathers.

So I hear some interesting rumors around the Russian River Resort. Sounds like it has been in Escrow and may open soon. Once I have confirmation as to details I'll let you know in this space. And on that line of inquiry, I am waiting with baited breath for final notice as to the new Club Yamagata to open; I have reason to suspect that will happen any day now. Really...

So I'm looking forward to April, with the Tenth Anniversary party for the Russian River Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence at the end of the month. As part of that, they will be doing a display of the archives at the Guerneville library and of course a Good Friday Party. Make sure to read this space next month for the 411 on that.

So that's my story and I'm sticking to it for March. Feel free to drop me a line at if you know any great events, current news or are in need of bad fashion advice. And of course tune into my radio show “The River Dish” every Sunday but the 4th week of the month at 9 pm on KGGV 95.1 LP FM the Bridge for all things Dishy and Swishy on the Russian River.
